Bulgaria is amazingly kaleidoscopic - vast golden sandy beaches of the Black Sea, green and rugged mountains, fertile land and curative mineral springs. Modern resorts, as well as secluded nooks and crannys where one is alone with nature, are part of its landscape.
A holiday in the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts is a genuine experience both for you and your children. Caressing sun, warm sea, guaranteed suntan, sports, amusement, attractions and high spirits from March through October.
A holiday in the Bulgarian ski resorts, also, is a genuine hit for skiers. The snow remains for 180 days a year, offering ski runs of varying difficulty, ski facilities, first-class hotels and diverse programmes attracting amateur and professional skiers alike.
If you need a health holiday you can regain your confidence in the country where life-giving water gushes forth. Top hotels offer balneotherapy centres equipped with modern medical facilities and staffed by highly trained specialists.
The World Tourism Organisation describes Bulgaria as one of the most appealing “new faces” in the tourism industry today, and it is true that this industry in particular has gone from rags to riches over the last 5 years in the country, reaching 12% of the Bulgarian GDP.
North of Varna there is a cluster of seaside resorts all with fine sandy beaches but differing in size and style. The largest one of them is Golden Sands set on well-wooded terraces, the last foothills of the Balkan range reaching down to the sea. Its four kilometre beach slopes gently into water which has no dangerous currents.
There is a wealth of sporting and other facilities available, all very moderately priced. Water-skiing, wind-surfing, paraskiing, snorkelling, tennis, volleyball, mini-golf and croquet can fill the visitor’s day, and a choice of restaurants, bars, discos and nightclubs provide evening entertainment. Many hotels have recently been refurnished and upgraded.
By contrast, Albena is the youngest resort of the three, it has modern architecture and a youthful image.
Its 7 km beach offers the same wide range of sporting facilities as Golden Sands, and there is a good selection of restaurants, folk taverns and other evening entertainments.
Sunny beach is one of the oldest biggest resorts set on a small bay and surrounded by green and shady parks. The resort is famous for its 8 km long beach strip covered with golden sand, Mediterranean climate, crystal clear sea and picturesque mountains. It offers varied services and plenty of entertainment facilities for children and adults.
Beyond Albena to the north is the small town of Balchik, founded in the 6th century B.C. In certain lights, both sea and sand here gleam silver, giving the area its name the Silver Riviera. There is a picturesque harbour area, and from the jetty it is fascinating to watch shoals of tiny fish darting about in the clear water, in the shadow of small boats.
This is the oldest resort. It is situated in a thickly wooded old park and has quiet bays, sandy beaches and curative mineral springs. The combination of forest scenery and sea climate, hot water and good hotels attracts scores of tourists every year. The resort is a paradise for those who are fond of fishing and scuba diving. The climate is Mediterranean with high concentration of light negative ions.
Borovets is the oldest and most developed mountain resort in Bulgaria tending to be turned into an all year round resort. It is located amongst age-old pine woods in Rila mountains, only 72 km away from Sofia. The resort is of alpine type and provides excellent opportunities for a whole range of winter sports due to the permanent snow cover from November to May. In the summer the mountains continue to attract a large number of visitors with some of the best hiking, mountain biking and picnic conditions in Europe.
Pamporovo is a modern ski resort in the heart of the Rhodopi mountain. It is the most southern skiing resort in Europe with a mild mountain climate. It is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort with wonderful snow throughout the whole season from December to April. The gentle profile of the mountain with its rounded slopes and summits makes Pamporovo particularly suitable for skiing - 17,5 km alpine tracks with various grades of difficulty. All ski runsare safeguarded and maintained in a very good condition.
"God created the world and gifted each country with one present. Bulgaria was left until the last so the Creator gave a little bit of everything!” Indeed, any visitor can share the same opinion with Bulgarians.
Bulgaria offers beautiful long golden sandy beaches plus magnificent mountains with Ski Resorts that are under major improvements. In addition, due to the emerging market of property development, golfing and golf courses are just beginning to add to all the beauties Bulgaria offers.
Currently there are three golf courses in Bulgaria near Sofia and Varna. Bulgaria is keen to capitalize on the rapid increase of foreign interest, using golf as a “carrot” and the three golf courses will shortly be joined by several other courses to satisfy the demand. In fact, in 15 years time it is predicted that there will be 40 golf courses in Bulgaria and with golf will come property built around the fairways – perfect for holidays and investment. Particularly on the Black sea coast where thanks to a mild climate with small rain falls, the golfing season could easily extend through eight to nine months.
Already three golfing legends have put the country firmly on the golfing map. Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Ian Woosnam are currently involved in designing five golf courses in the country and the focus is especially on three future golf complexes located on the Northern Black sea coast. The three golf courses located 50 km from Varna and 20 km from Golden Sands have spectacular sea views and offer excellent conditions for enjoyable quality golf and relaxation
